![]() The pictures used within the book help to enhance the overall experience of the piece. She was a fashion Icon and married to John Lennon a music legend. I don’t have a lot of context on what was going on in the world around the time this was written but I do know that Yoko was very prominent in her community and very well respected in the industry. perhaps it is some sort of commentary on consumerism or health care. The text raised a lot of questions in my mind: How am I supposed to construct these body parts? Why must they be better than what we have now? Why am I selling them to a sporting goods store? At what price am I to sell them? Why must I only use ready made objects in my apartment? I don’t really know what this one is supposed to mean. The absurd image the reader paints in his mind gives it a lot of life and meaning. Some of the instructions are completely impossible such as the one above. In our lives there can exist great complexity and confusion, when we have to struggle and confine ourselves to our work it can be easy to simplify it to the source of our greatest discomfort. ![]() Some of the instructions are absurd but insightful. Its up to you the reader to Interact and think about the meaning of this set of bizarre instructions directed by Yoko. The book is like a set of written instructions, even the very beginning of the book pictured here, the reader is expected to interact with and interpret the book in there own individual way. ![]() What I find most interesting in the piece is the voice used by Yoko Ono throughout the book. I was very surprised at how much I was enjoying reading this kind of abstract piece of writing. Its been a very interesting read feels vivid and dynamic and wholly unique. I have been enjoying going through Yoko Ono’s “Grapefruit: A Book of Instruction and Drawings”.
